Lapland as a wellness destination
There is something very special and calming in the nature of Finnish Lapland. I would say that Lapland is one of the best wellness travelling destinations in the world. Why?
The Arctic nature
Finnish Lapland has vast wilderness of untouched nature, that varies from pine and birch forests to treeless tundra. The lakes and rivers flow with incredibly clean and clear water, and in Lapland you can breathe the cleanest air in the world.*
The changing of the seasons is almost magical – from winter’s sometimes extremely cold temperatures, thick snowfall and of course the amazing Northern Lights, to spring when the light seems to increase in a blink of an eye and nature wakes up to a summer when the sun does not set at all. Finally as the summer turns into autumn, nature is painted with bright autumn colors. It is difficult to pick your favourite, it is best to experience them all!
* The Finnish Meteorological Institute FMI’s measurement station in Sammaltunturi in Pallas is one of the places that measures the cleanest air in the world.
The quietness and space
Lapland is vast. There are only about two inhabitants per square kilometer in Lapland. Lapland has Finland’s biggest National parks and one of the biggest inhabited wilderness areas of Europe. There is space for everyone to enjoy the quietness of nature, and you don’t need to look for it!
Every man’s rights ensure that everyone is able to enjoy nature responsibly – whether you want to take a short stroll in the forest or a week long hike through a national park. In Finland the wilderness huts are well taken care of and for everyone to use free of charge.
Unique destinations
Lapland has some very unique wellness destinations. One of our favourites is Arctic Sauna World in Jerisjärvi, Muonio. Located right next to Pallas-Ylläs National Park, by a lake Jeris, you can enjoy the magical fell scenery, peace and quiet and five different saunas – Finnish wellness at it’s best! Want to experience that during winter? Join our Winter Wellness Tour by Lake Jeris and enjoy yoga and mindfulness practises in this suberb wellness destination!
Or would you like to combine arctic city with nature and wellness? City of Rovaniemi is the “gate to Lapland” located by the arctic circle (and yes, also known as the official home of Santa). In Rovaniemi you can combine city life with enjoying Lappish nature, which surrounds the city. Rovaniemi is definitely worth visiting also during the summer. Watch the midnight sun hover over the horizon and the Ounasjoki river, try forest yoga, rejuvenate in sauna and take a dip into the river! All of this you can experience with us during our Summer Wellness Tour.
Afraid is going to be crowded? Do not worry, there is space in Rovaniemi – did you know that Rovaniemi is the biggest city in Europe measured by area, with about 60 000 inhabitants?
Relaxed pace of life
The people in Lapland have a close relationship with nature. Nature and the seasons have always given the rhythm to life, and you can still feel the relaxed pace of life in the culture and the life of the locals.
Here are listed some things that make Lapland such an unique wellness destination. Most importantly, Lapland needs to be experienced, with all senses. Welcome to Lapland!
